Frequently Asked Questions
We hope that you find the answer to your question. If not, please contact us for more information.
What is the HxGN Content Program?
The HxGN Content Program is Hexagon’s delivery platform for geospatial data. With your yearly subscription, you get unlimited access to the aerial imagery in your AOI (Area of Interest) and all the newly acquired imagery in your AOI for a year. Hexagon's aerial imagery is a 4-band imagery (R,G,B, and NIR) quality orthorectified dataset of the USA and large parts of Europe. The imagery has been collected and processed according to the highest specifications and accuracy standards, is delivered with metadata, and refreshed according to a planned cycle.
What coverage is currently available?
View the Coverage Map to see if your AoI (area of interest) is covered. Coverage includes the entire US, large parts of Europe and selected cities in Canada. You can toggle between different vintages to see if there is historic data available for your AOI.
How can I see what acquisition is planned?
Visit the Coverage Map to see future acquisition plans. You can see if the area is being acquired, has been acquired, or if the HxGN Content Program team is in the process of uploading new data.
Can I get a demo of the imagery before subscribing to the service?
Yes, simply visit our Demo Viewer to see the data before you sign up. You can freely use the current free tier layer zoom level. Should you wish to see higher resolution data, please sign up for a trial account.
Can I try HxGN Content Program before I purchase a one year subscription?
Yes, we offer a 10 days free trial subscription. During trial period you get the full access to stream the data within your selected AOI. After 10 days your trial subscription will expire and you can decide if you want to subscribe for the year.
Can we have a trial account extended?
No, we don't allow extensions of free trials. However, should you have a good reason to need an extension, please contact [email protected] with your trial extension request.
What equipment was used to capture the data?
The aerial imagery of the HxGN Content Program was acquired with the market leading Leica ADS100 and the Leica DMC III large format digital airborne sensors. Visit the capture technology page for more information.
What is the resolution of the imagery?
15 cm/6 inch resolution for urban centers in the US, which is defined as areas with greater than 50,000 population. 30 cm/1 foot resolution for all other areas in the US. 30 cm/6 inch resolution for large parts of Europe.
What is the accuracy of the imagery?
The official accuracy of the 15 cm resolution imagery is +/- 50 cm and the accuracy of the 30 cm resolution imagery is +/- 1.2 m. These numbers are very conservative and our customers have found the accuray to be much higher in most areas.
What applications can clients use to stream the imagery?
The streaming service is available as an OGC compliant product which can be used across all GIS platforms including ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, Global Mapper, AutoCAD, GeoMedia and QGIS amongst others.
What are the different protocols that are supported?
The supported protocols are WMS and WMTS. There is also beta level support for ArcGIS REST and SOAP protocols.

What are all these different service, how are they different?
With your subscription you will be granted access to 8 data layers:
What is the difference between the cached and rendered layers?
The cached services are a pre-canned, optimised service which will always return the latest layer. This service works best for individuals who are concerned with performance, and always need to see the latest imagery.
The rendered services draw each layer individually, so the performance is a bit slower than the cached services. But they allow more control when it comes to defining the style of the service. Leveraging styles will allow you to change the options for the WMS to allow such things as always seeing the best resolution of data in a given location. Note: The default style is set as Resolution, Date, Band
How do I know when the area I am using was captured?
Most GIS applications will have an option or button which is called Get Feature Info or Feature Information. Selecting this button and clicking anywhere on the imagery will return detailed metadata information. The metadata returned will include information such as date of capture.
